<hi style=afpcap>Experience gained from the development of the B-9 enabled the design team at Boeing to make ambitious plans for further bombers. Amongst these was the XB-15 which Boeing submitted against a proposal for a bomber with a 5,000 mile range which was drawn up at Wright Field in 1933. The prototype was originally designated the XBLR-1 but was changed to the XB-15 before the first flight in October 1937. After extensive testing the aircraft was converted to a transporter with the addition of cargo doors and a hoist as the XC-105.</hi>
